Test: To determine quantitative performance of equipment.
Adjust: To regulate the specified fluid flow rate and air patterns at the terminal equipment.
Balance: To proportion flows within the distribution system, achieving allowable tolerances (submains, branches, and terminals) according to specified design quantities.

The process of Testing and Balancing the heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems and related control systems verifies that the system performs at the designed intent, and operates at an optimum level. Total Systems Balance includes a review of the design documents for balanceability, construction observation reports, and a methodical approach to the Testing and Balancing of HVAC systems to achieve optimal performance with verifiable and repeatable test data.
HVAC systems that lack performance of a Total System Balance can result in inadequate indoor air quality, building/space pressurization issues, excessive energy consumption, and comfort issues for building occupants.
Final Test & Balance Reports bear the seal and signature of a certified Test & Balance Engineer. Certified Reports validate that the systems: have been tested, adjusted, and balanced in accordance with the referenced standards, are an accurate representation of how the systems have been installed, are a true representation of how the systems are operating at the completion of the testing, adjusting, and balancing procedures, and are an accurate record of all final test data measured to achieve design operating values.
Certified Test and Balance Engineers on staff have over 42-years of successful testing, adjusting, and balancing experience on projects of all magnitude. Projects have included but are not limited to; resorts, casinos, restaurants, healthcare facilities, laboratories, educational buildings, offices, public works, state buildings, federal buildings, retail facilities, clubs, entertainment venues, lodging, correctional facilities and tenant improvements.
Detailed balancing plans are generated to identify Test and Balance procedures to assist in avoiding conflicts with the construction schedule. Test and Balance is performed alongside controls as specified in the Test and Balance Procedures, to incorporate cooperation of control devices calibration and sequence of operations. Routine instrumentation verification testing is performed by calibrating and adjusting to maintain accuracy within the limits stated by the manufacturer.
